Lecture: Celestial Bodies – The Eye and Outer Space
October 7, 2017 @ 10:50 am - 11:20 am
Lecture by Timothy J. Bennett, CRA, OCT-C, FOPS. Eye School 2017. First time viewers of ophthalmic images frequently make the observation that the photos look like something from outer space. This lecture will explore the visual similarities between structures in the eye and images from outer space. It will also touch on two unusual conditions directly related to space, Solar retinopathy which results from staring at the sun without protections and Visual Impairment and Intracranial Pressure (VIIP) a condition which effects astronauts from prolonged exposure to a weightless environment in space.
Eye School 2017 is a free community education event co-sponsored by the Penn State Eye Center and District 14T Lions Club.
